‘Police armed to protect our communities’
I write in response to recent articles about two armed police officers dealing with a traffic offence in the centre of Dundee.
Their firearms were not drawn, so are we not over-reacting to law officers carrying pistols?
Dundee holidaymakers abroad must see armed police and don’t feel intimidated.
Retired city police inspector Jim Melville said that once a trigger is pulled there is no going back.
Law officers, though, would only use guns to protect the communities from firearm-bearing villains.
Come on Dundee, wake up. Ron Irvine.
Why all the fuss?
After reading the article about armed police on the streets of Dundee and Scotland in general, I really do not see what all the fuss is about.
To me, it is just another change in the society we live in.
As a result, our quiet way of life is disappearing. M. Anderson.
* In reference to police officers in Scotland carrying guns, I feel that in the violent times we live in when some people carry knives etc and have even tried to stab a police officer members of the public have to be protected, as do police officers. In the violent system in which we live, I feel they should be armed. Jimmy Borland.
Muzzle and ban ‘very fair’
I was interested to read the comments of Margaret Morrow regarding her dog, which was spared being put down after it had bitten and injured a woman.
I don’t think it’s over the top for the dog to be muzzled in public and banned from beaches after what happened.
After all, it could have been a young child that was attacked and the results could have been a lot more serious.
I think under the circumstances the court judgment was very fair indeed. Animal Lover.
Horrible haar is a real pain!
The weather of late has been lovely, but, oh for a magic wand that could make our coastal haar disappear.
Three times over the last week, an evening walk in the sunshine was spoiled by the horrible haar rolling in from the North Sea.
You spot it lurking in the distance and hope for the best, but there’s no stopping it and you’re soon cooling off in the coastal mist.
Sometimes I think we might be better off on the West Coast then I remember all the times we’ve been attacked by swarms of midges
I think we’ll just change to an earlier tea-time in our house, so we can head out earlier and grab the chance to enjoy sunshine while we can. Lois.
