St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is “delighted” Hearts will provide the opposition for the Steven Anderson testimonial game at McDiarmid Park on August 3.
The Saints defender is being rewarded for 10 years of service with a testimonial year and the match is being sponsored by motor dealer Alan Storrar.
Tommy said: “I’m happy we have a big club like Hearts for Steven’s testimonial game. I hope both sets of fans will turn out to give Steven the support he deserves.”
Should Saints win their Europa League second qualifying round tie, this match will be sandwiched between their third round qualifying matches.
Hearts, who exited administration on Wednesday, will use the game as part of their build up to next season’s Championship campaign.
The Tynecastle side’s head coach Robbie Neilson commented: “We’re delighted to be asked to play in the testimonial for Steven.
“He’s a great professional and all credit to him for staying with St Johnstone for so long.
“Steven always gives 100% and has done tremendously well over the years, enjoying European football and a Scottish Cup win.
“And the match will be ideal for us the week before the Championship season begins.”
Match sponsor Alan Storrar commented: “We are delighted to sponsor Steven’s testimonial game.
“Like him, we have been associated withSt Johnstone, through various sponsorships, for 10 years and so it is fitting that we support his testimonial year.
“The match will be a great occasion for all concerned and a fitting tribute to a great St Johnstone servant.”
Testimonial chairman David Ritchie said: “The match will be exactly a year since last season’s opening league game in Perth when Hearts fans turned up in great numbers and St Johnstone donated part of the gate receipts to support Hearts’ cause.
“We are delighted Hearts have agreed to provide the opposition for Steven’s testimonial match as both clubs enjoy a good relationship.”
