McNamara impressed by player fitness

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara is delighted with the fitness levels his players are showing.

Despite soaring temperatures on the training pitches in San Roque on Spain’s Costa Del Sol, the Tangerines have been training twice a day.

And Jackie’s been impressed with the way his men have handled the heat.

“We’re out first thing and again in the early evening. During the second session it’s still been hot but the boys have handled it well.” He said.

“And they’re definitely getting there. We’ve cranked things up over the last week or so since we went to Germany and the boys have taken it in their stride.

“By the time we get back at the weekend, they’ll be ready to go for the games against Dunfermline and then Wigan next week.”

Training with the party last night was young French trialist Jean-Yves Koue.

While it’s too early to judge the 20-year-old, at over six feet tall he looks the part for a central defender and has done well in his first couple of sessions.

He’s set to face San Roque in Friday’s friendly that will provide the last game action of the two week spell on the continent.

“We’ll see how he does over the next few days and I’m happy to get the chance to have a close look at him while we’re hear,” added Jackie.

“Right now, I’m not planning to bring any more trialists over.”

Returning to the training pitch on Monday evening was striker David Goodwillie after he managed to get back early from his whirlwind trip home to attend a family wedding.

Back in Scotland, United are awaiting news of Brian McLean’s proposed switch to Ross County.

The defender headed home at the weekend for talks with Staggies boss Derek Adams but so far has not switched clubs.

There has been some talk of interest from another SPL club but that’s news to United who have only given him permission to speak to County.
