Following the letter from ‘Dog Owner’ (Feb 13), I would like to take this opportunity to make people aware that Dundee City Council is still issuing dog fouling bags, free of charge.
No decision has been taken to stop this.
The bags are being issued free of charge to the city’s residents and the public will still be able to collect them via council offices, libraries, community centres etc.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the vast majority of dog owners in Dundee who are responsible, and use this service to help us keep our city clean.
We will also continue to enforce the law, and where necessary, will issue a fixed penalty notice to any people who fail to clean up after their dogs. Councillor Bob Duncan, Convener of Environment, Dundee City Council.
Who will get the Falklands
I was wondering who’ll get the Falkland Islands if Scotland gains independence.
In the event of people voting yes in the forthcoming referendum can someone tell me who’ll get the South Atlantic islands and for that matter Gibraltar and a host of overseas territories?
Will they become partitioned or will they just become a part of ‘Greater England’?
It throws up the absurd possibility of a new conflict over the Falklands, this time between Argentina, England and Scotland. General Belgrano.
Hand them back
Why Britain wants to retain the Falkland Islands is beyond me.
These isles are windswept, with sheep outnumbering people, and they are 8000 miles
away.
I say just give them back to Argentina as it’s nearer. Westender, Dundee.
A bridge ‘too far’
With reference to your regular correspondent Jimmy Borland’s recent letter, I too am uneasy about Scottish independence.
As far as I am concerned there are still too many questions and not enough answers.
As for 16-17-year-olds being given a vote, I honestly don’t think the vast majority would be interested enough to head to the polls. I think that those who did would be swept along by a “Braveheart” type mentality.
I might add that I am proud to be a Scot, but I am also proud to be British.
After 300 years of unity, independence is a bridge too far! ‘Status Quo’.
Peace shattered
The peace of a recent walk on the beach at Kinshaldy, at Tentsmuir Forest, was spoiled for us by three trail bikers.
They rode their noisy machines around in the dunes and the forest before speeding off along the beach in the direction of Leuchars.
Besides the obvious dangers of these bikers racing around where families are walking with dogs and children, they must also be alarming wildlife and damaging what is an extremely precious and vulnerable natural environment.
My photo just happened to catch one of them doing a wheelie, which indicates the speed they were doing. — Nature Lover, Dundee.
Seating plan needs revamp
An observation of the seating at the Wellgate Centre suggests perhaps it could be put to better use if it was spread out a little more.
There are no seats at the entrance to the centre — you have to go up a level to the cafe for a seat. The next ones are on the top level and are all in the same area.
I think it would be better if they were shifted around a bit. There is a large space where Woolworths used to be. Maybe that would be better. Need A Seat.
Brian’s a credit to city
I attended DCA to see the movie Coriolanus which was introduced by Brian Cox, one of the stars.
Afterwards, Brian returned to answer questions on the movie and his career. He gave his time freely and spoke with humour and honesty and is a credit to the city. Film Buff.
