Letters - 28 March 2011
Daughter can’t get her foot in the door
My daughter is in her third year at high school and they have all been offered work experience, but the school does not have enough placements so parents are asked to help find one.

My child is interested in working in a beauty salon.

I have phoned nearly every one in the phone book in the past two weeks, but nobody seems willing to take her on for one reason or another.

How are children supposed to get any kind of experience when employers are not willing to help?

These children are the next working generation and would be valuable in helping the economy get back on its feet in the future, so how can it be that they are not getting a chance to get their feet in the door?

They are being rejected before they can get a chance to start a career.

I feel this country has no hope if our children are not given a chance. — Fed-Up Parent.

‘We pay our bus fares too’
The letter complaining about unfolded prams on buses from Fed Up Bus User has made me angry.

Myself and a close friend both use the bus daily and we pay the fare like everyone else.

We both have children under three months old. Would you manage to fold down a pram and hold a baby?

Would it not be easier for you to stand up and stop being so selfish?

This really angers me, what right do you have to moan about folk with prams? — Angry mums Tracy and Jade.

Traffic fears
I appeal to drivers approaching Scott Fyffe roundabout from the Asda Milton roundabout to please think carefully about what lane you are in.

I have lost count of the amount of times drivers in the left hand lane have exited at the third (Strips of Craigie), fourth (Greendykes) or even fifth exit (along the Arbroath Road) at the roundabout when this lane is for Douglas (first exit) or heading to Claypotts lights (second exit).

Use some common sense. Since when did people use the left lane to go right round a roundabout?

As a motorcycle user it is just as well I’m a careful driver! — Driver fearing for their safety.

Bright idea applauded
As a regular dog walker in Dundee’s Dudhope Park I have to applaud the city council for installing floodlights at the skate park.

The facility was already popular with the city’s youth, but the lights allow it to be used well into the evening.

And, at a time when cutbacks and savings have become the norm, it’s good to see the council going the extra mile to encourage active lifestyles. — Hilltoon Henry.

‘Grave concerns’ for taxi trade in Dundee
I am a taxi operator of twenty years in Dundee and want to express my grave concerns with regards to the jobs and futures of many in the trade.

When is the city council going to sit up and take notice of concerns at the number of operator licences they are issuing?

Don’t they realise they are forcing many hard working men and women onto the dole?

Will they throw money at any of these people as they have done with redundant workforces in the past to enable them to retrain? I think not.

The taxi trade is no different to any other business in this hard economic climate, but to have your city councillors forcing operators and drivers to seek employment benefit, housing benefit and any other benefits at the taxpayers’ expense beggars belief. — UB40.

Need help to find cat
I urgently need help to find my cat. Toots got hit by a black or gold car on Brown Constable Street at around 1-2pm on March 24.

She wasn’t wearing a collar and isn’t microchipped. She was wrapped up in a towel or jacket and driven off.

She is a small black cat with a distinctive folded ear. If anybody has any information on her whereabouts and health please call me on 07791691686 or 07851987758. — Sarah Norris.

Spring has sprung
With the arrival of spring and the lighter evenings, Friends of Baxter Park are hosting an informal drop-in session in the park centre, from 6.30pm-8.00pm on Thursday, April 7.

You are invited to come along for a cup of tea, have a chat with other members and find out about upcoming events and activities.

We are also keen to hear your own ideas for the park and things you’d like to see happening there. We would love to see you and guarantee a warm welcome! — Kenneth Crooks, Vice Chairman, FoBP.
