AT A recent Stobswell public meeting, the police and councillors were told “more lighting in Baxter Park would be a benefit to fighting crime in the area”.
The police and residents would be able to see what troublemakers are getting up to in the centre of Baxter Park from the streets and the surrounding flats.
The police could stop the anti social behaviour before it gets out of hand if they could easily see the troublemakers through the deep darkness.
More residents would use the park at night if it was properly lit.
If these lights were switched on last month, would 100 plus cars have been damaged over the last four weekends?
Residents publicly reported that the car vandals were in Baxter Park before Baxter Park Terrace cars were damaged outside the top gate.
Why won’t our Maryfield councillors even try turning on the lights that are already installed in Baxter Park? — Flick the Switch for Safety.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED
I STOOD as a candidate in the Maryfield Ward and heard on the doorstep these very same concerns; crime, prostitution, anti-social behaviour.
Nothing has changed.
The problem is the area has three SNP councillors. Other ward areas have more than one voice to offer contrasting views.
These elected members are part of the current ruling administration and must stand up and evidence what they are actually doing to effectively combat these problems in Maryfield. — George McIrvine, former Scottish Labour Candidate.
Lack of suitable parking to blame
Not much room to move in Step Row.
AS A resident living near to Perth Road, I was shocked to read in the Tele that SNP councillor Will Dawson is claiming that the parking problems in Perth Road and at other locations in Dundee are due to “inconsiderate” drivers.
The problems in the Perth Road area are largely because the council has failed to act to improve parking.
The council agreed a report on bringing in a residents’ parking scheme for the Perth Road months ago, but on Councillor Dawson’s watch, the promised improvements have not happened.
Councillor Dawson and the SNP administration should get their act together rather than blaming local residents. — Full of Excuses.
Is taxi seatbelt law necessary?
MY WIFE and I recently read of the furore surrounding taxi drivers who do not wear seatbelts.
Apparently, this is because they are always leaping out of the driving seat to open doors, etc.
I can only say that this is news to me. My wife and I recently exited at Dundee railway station.
The boot was ‘popped’ from inside the car leaving us to unload our own luggage. Is it really necessary to leave their car? — John Dench.
NO EXEMPTIONS
SINCE DAY one of the introduction of the compulsory wearing of seatbelts, I can’t understand the reasons for the exemption of taxi drivers.
It’s quite simple. All drivers should wear seatbelts. — Ronnie McIntosh, Baluniefield Drive, Dundee.
Can’t wait for Light Night
I AM very much looking forward to the Christmas Light Night festivities tonight.
No matter what anyone thought of last year’s Winter Light Night, it was a great occasion and I have every faith, no pun intended, that it will be superb night of entertainment once more. — Christmas Fan.
