| Full-time mum Chevonne Harper (24) said her two young children have been left traumatised and afraid to sleep in their own beds after their Janefield Place flat was targeted by the heartless robbers.
The thieves got into the flat in broad daylight and netted a haul of electrical equipment, including two Nintendo Wiis, a Nintendo DS, a PSP console and a laptop computer.
Chevonne said her two sons Andrew (7) and Lukeus (5) have been left devastated by the incident.
She said the stolen consoles often provided a much-needed rest break for her youngest son, who has additional support needs.
Lukeus, who has hyperactivity disorder ADHD and is undergoing medical assessments to see whether he is autistic, went to stay with his grandparents following the break-in, after becoming too frightened to stay at home.
The family, who are moving to a new house in Charleston on Sunday, had been out of the property all day and were shocked to discover the items missing.
The distraught mum said she believes the culprits got into the ground-floor flat through a window while the family were out.
“We are in the process of moving to a new house and we went up to lay laminate and sort things out during the day,” she said.
“When we came back at around 6.30pm, my partner realised that my purse was lying out.
“We then looked around and noticed that all the things were missing.”
Chevonne said the family have not felt safe in their home since the theft.
“We are all absolutely gutted,” she said.
“We have hardly slept. We all tried to sleep on the couch in the living room last night because they didn’t want to be alone.
“My youngest son had to go to my parents in Ardler to stay because he was so traumatised.”
She added, “I wouldn’t have minded if they had stolen my stuff, but it was the boys’ stuff they took.
“The computer is sometimes the only thing that Lukeus sits down at for any length of time. He is always constantly running around, but when he plays with the computer he can get a bit of a break.”
The worried mother, who immediately contacted Tayside Police to report the crime, said she is now anxious the thieves will return for more.
“I am usually here all day, so they obviously took a chance to come in,” she said. “I am so angry — they stole over £1000 worth of stuff and it was probably sold for pennies to fund their drug habits.”
She added, “Now I am scared they will come back for the stuff they didn’t take this time.” |
