Kill order wrong say Tele readers

Bambi: Kill order was wrong, say Tele readers.

Almost 94% of Tele readers believe the decision to shoot Bambi was wrong, a phone poll by the Tele has shown.
The killing has provoked outrage across the city and the paper has continued to receive a deluge of calls, emails and letters from angry animal lovers.

The switchboard was flooded with callers wanting to register their disgust at the killing, with only 6% of those responding supporting the decision.

The animal’s plight has even provoked international condemnation, with Las Vegas resident John Fidler emailing to express his disgust. He wrote, “The killing of the defenceless deer in order to accommodate a business owner’s interests was a disgrace.

“What kind of city has Dundee become that this would be allowed to happen. Where was the scrutiny by the local representative whose constituents were shocked by this wanton act?”

Wellbank resident Carolyn Taylor was among the Dundonians to add their voice to the protests. She said, “It is well known that, every year, deer shift downwards through Dundee as part of their seasonal pattern of movement, and many of us have witnessed them in various urban situations. If the possibility of them causing road accidents had been a prime concern, there would have been a call for a mass cull long ago, so what is different about this case?”

However, the decision to shoot Bambi was supported by a retired serviceman, who was involved in an accident when one leapt in front of his car.

George Holmes (60), of Mill O’ Mains, said, “Once people have been on the receiving end of a deer running into their car I think they would see they are going a bit over the top. I don’t believe in killing animals unnecessarily, but, when they are a danger, human life comes first.”
