What part of Lochee is Councillor Ferguson defining as “a ghetto”?
Houses are being offered for sale for prices in the £150,000 range, to rent a two-bedroom semi in Charleston will cost £600 a month.
This is comparable with houses for rent down at the waterfront.
On the main roads you’ll see plenty of 4x4s parked.
Councillor Ferguson is just another Johnny-come-lately to criticise and castigate Lochee.—Andy Walker.
Why should the innocent be fined too?
I would like to point out to the author of “Fining litter louts will soon solve gull problems” that not all people who live in tenement blocks are guilty of overfilling their rubbish bins, therefore why should the innocent be punished with on-the-spot fines?
I live in a block in the Stobswell area of Dundee and nearly every morning I am woken by seagulls raking in the rubbish that my neighbours have left out in the street and I am forever having to clean up after them.
Why is that my fault, and what does he suggest I do about it?
I have spoken to my neighbours, environmental health and my councillor to no avail.
Everyone in my block including myself has been sent letters, but no further action is ever taken.
However, if a young person threw away a crisp bag they would be fined.
Personally I think it should be the guilty tenants and landlords who get penalised, not the innocent neighbours who have to put up with this unsociable and filthy behaviour. — Miss S. Davidson.
Sort out seats
The seats at the top of Crescent Lane.
When are the council and the police going to do something about the drunks who sit at the top of Crescent Lane?
You pass them and they are urinating in the bushes. Is that not indecent exposure?
We reported it to Councillor Ken Lynn.
He said he would sort it out but nothing has been done. This was a nice place when it opened first.
Everything was kept nice and tidy. Now it is a tip.
Why don’t they just remove the seats?
Who wants to sit beside drunks who use the place as toilets? — Resident.
Biomass plant is just an incinerator
Re the home turf holidays item in the Telegraph.
It was indeed a nice advert for Dundee.
However, just half a mile north from this picture is the intended site for the biomass plant. Hardly a fitting project for the area.
It would seem Dundee City Council has forgotten the fiasco which is Baldovie.
“Biomass” is just a more modern word for incineration.
I’m afraid the councillors who are in favour of this are not willing to stand up and say so.
They are no credit to the people of Dundee to propose building this so near the town centre. — Concerned.
Erect turbines at old boatyard
If Forth Ports and the Scottish Government are serious about creating “green jobs”, why don't they build these massive wind turbines that will be sited throughout Europe at the old boatyard?
There is an enormous number of docks lying idle. Think of the boost to the economy and the jobs created.
Why aren’t MSPs of all political parties not lobbying for this? — Green Man.
Irresponsible cyclists
While there are a lot of complaints about dog owners who don’t clean up, another problem is the irresponsible cyclists who travel on the pavement, often quite fast.
They don’t care about people on the pavement and some day some person or child will be severely hurt. — Jimmy Borland.
I’ll be taking the bus
In response to the letter from Taxi Driver, you have got me scared and I will now travel by bus.
If driving a taxi is getting folk feeling like this who knows what they will do.
All jobs are very stressful at times and glad you did seek help. On the other hand remember you are driving the public and I would seek further help.
In my opinion, I don’t think you should be driving. — Bus Traveller.
Mass meeting call
I read with interest the Taxi Driver’s letter. He states that Dundee councillors can do something to help the taxi drivers’ plight but for some reason choose not to.
He also states that this has been noted by the taxi trade. I ask why the taxi trade is sitting back and doing nothing about it.
We have different associations and a committee who liase with the council so I ask, why don’t we as a trade as a whole have a mass meeting so we can voice our opinions and take these matters to the council. — Concerned Taxi Driver.
