| Mark Adams (34), a self-employed joiner, had visited the Royal Bank of Scotland ATM on Albert Street at 12.20am today and was in his car counting the money when a prostitute opened his front passenger door and sat down beside him.
“I’d just taken money out and wasn’t aware of anyone else in the area,” the married father of three said. “Within seconds of me being in my car a prostitute opened the car door and sat beside me.
“I asked her, ‘What are you doing?’ and told her to get out of my car.
“I was really shocked by what had happened and as I drove home I passed by Baxter Park and stopped the car to phone police.”
But no sooner had Mr Adams stopped than another prostitute appeared and sought to gain his attention.
“I was on the phone to police informing them of what had just happened to me and then another prostitute was waving her hands in the street. I put down my window and told her to go away and said I was on the phone to police.”
A spokesman confirmed Mr Adams had contacted police and said they were to meet him today to discuss the issue.
“I know the police are trying to help the girls involved but it doesn’t seem to be solving the problem with them in Stobswell just now,” Mr Adams said.
“It’s also about the type of people they bring to the area who pay for them — they’re often unsavoury characters.”
Mr Adams also expressed concern for the consequences had he been seen by police with the prostitute.
“The implications for me were bad if someone had seen the prostitute get into my car. It was an innocent situation that could have turned out badly.
“To have two different prostitutes approach my car in the same night shows that the issue is a real worry in the area.
“When I returned home and told my wife about what had happened she said it was actually a form of harassment. It wasn’t just happening on the street, one had actually got into my car.”
This is the second time the Adams family have been plagued by problems with prostitutes touting for business in the area after Mark’s 14-year-old son was approached by one earlier this year.
“I’m sick to the stomach of it and just want some kind of action to prevent this from going on,” he said.
A police spokesman said, “We would encourage any members of the public who have information regarding prostitution or who witness any activity which they believe is linked to prostitution to contact us.” |
