Chaotic journey to work with new timetable
I agree with the bus driver who wrote in with regards to the bus timetable changes by National Express Dundee.

It isn’t the driver’s fault and they should not face the wrath of passengers — almost all who I have spoken with are just as unhappy with these changes as the customers are.

When the changes were implemented, travelling to work was nothing short of chaos with drivers not knowing routes, buses being late, customers becoming very aggrieved, etc.

The bus I was due to take to work (the new 5a) was running almost 30 minutes late.

When it eventually arrived at Ninewells, we were transferred to another bus to go into the Technology Park, although the 5a was supposed to go there next on its route.

I did email National Express Dundee because, due to the proposed bus changes, the Pentland Avenue area of Dundee now has no service at all on a Sunday regardless of the fact there is sheltered housing and elderly in that area, my mum being one of those.

The email I received to my complaint advised, “I’m sorry we do not have bus timetable information at this department,” and then advised me to contact a website which was for West Midlands.

I hope National Express Dundee will pay attention to customers’ complaints. — Fed Up and Late!

Good work at park in vain
What a nice job Dundee City Council did on the park in Robertson Street.

However, it’s a pity all that good work may be in vain as it’s getting neglected already.

Does anybody go in and tidy it up? There’s litter strewn all over the place, bins are overflowing, the picnic bench is written on and plants are all pulled out.

What a waste of money. — Observer.

Language shows lack of respect
I read with disbelief the article regarding the comments of education convener Liz Fordyce, who labelled a colleague a buffoon in a row over proposals to move Eastern Primary School to the former Grove Academy building in Dundee.

Just who does the she think she is? Does she not understand the public role that she holds?

It is my opinion that Cllr Fordyce has breached the councillor’s code of conduct by calling Labour Councillor Laurie Bidwell a disgrace and a buffoon, for the following reason.

The code states you must respect all other councillors and all council employees and the role they play, treating them with courtesy at all times.

You should apply the principles of this code to your informal dealings with the council’s employees, party political groups and others no less scrupulously than at formal meetings of the council and its committees and sub-committees. — Allan Petrie, Blacklock Crescent, Dundee.

Pleased with comments
As a parent of three children attending Dundee schools, I am fed up with the constant negativity of the Labour councillor Laurie Bidwell.

It is about time someone in authority pointed this out.

So well done Councillor Fordyce for finally doing just that in the strongest possible terms. Councillor Fordyce has gone up in my estimation with her comments. — Angry Parent.

Pond will be fully cleaned
In reply to the letter from Environmentally Concerned, I assure residents that the clean-up of Stobsmuir Ponds, Dundee, is imminent and litter will be removed from the pond within the next week.

The thick scummy algae on the surface is created by sunshine acting on the soil at the bottom of the pond and is made worse by the low water level and it will be removed. Water tests are currently being undertaken.

The clean-up was scheduled for last week, but had to be postponed for various reasons.

The public can also help in keeping Stobsmuir Park and ponds looking their best by not dropping plastic bags or bottles in the water and the surrounding area. — Councillor Craig Melville, Maryfield Ward, Dundee City Council.

Perth attack recalled
Seventy years ago, in June 1940, Perth was bombed by the Germans.

It remains to this day a little known fact the Fair City was hit by the Germans, although it’s not known if this was intentional.

Given the majority of German raids on the west coast of Scotland came from bombers flying from bases not just in Germany but also in Holland, a fair amount flew across the Perth area on their way to their intended target.

As only one bomber appeared over Perth on the night the Fair City was bombed, it’s possible this plane had reason to return to its base and decided to drop its bombs over Perth.

Only Moncrieff tunnel was hit, but, fortunately, the train reputed to be in the tunnel at the time wasn’t hit.

The story goes the train driver took a chance and stopped the train in the tunnel, believing that if he was spotted coming out of the tunnel his train would be bombed.

The bombs smacked into the tunnel, the train wasn’t hit and it continued on its way into Perth station.

It was the one and only time Perth was bombed by the Germans. — Perth Historian.

Rabbit lost
Our little black/white rabbit escaped from its hutch in the Kingsway/Mains Drive area of Dundee and is probably hiding in a garden or shed nearby.

If anyone finds him, please get in touch on mobile 07811 206097 as he is dearly missed and we are very worried about him. — Reader.
