| And the 21-year-old will not be alone — many friends and family members have pledged to go with him on the next voyage.
Speaking from the family home in Rankine Street, Ali’s brother Khalid said he would be part of the next mission alongside brother Abdallah, who flew in from Dubai for Ali’s homecoming yesterday, and brother-in-law Dr Rad Al-khatib, who practices at Ninewells Hospital.
“It feels good to be back with family and the people I love but my mission is not finished yet,” Ali said today.
“I set out to deliver aid to Gaza and it has not arrived. So I will go back to finish off the job.
“It has been an eye-opener for everyone because people have been suffering there for years and when they see what happened to us as British citizens one wonders what happens there on a daily basis.”
Although there is no time set for the next journey, Ali hopes it will be sooner rather than later.
“Hopefully as soon as we get everything organised again we will be back out there,” he said.
“We have got people in Turkey pledging to send ships every week. We only had six to nine ships last time and we are aiming for 30 to 60 next time.”
Khalid added, “Everyone’s hearts were beating quickly as Ali came down the escalator at the airport and we all wanted to be the first to give him a hug, but the wee ones got there first.
“Ali is more determined to go back. Everyone is saying ‘take us with you’ but we are not joking, we mean this in a serious way.
“I will go with my brother-in-law from Ninewells and my brother in Dubai. We will all go until the siege is broken, we will not rest until the siege is broken.
“We are very proud of what Ali has done. He has shown bravery for a noble cause.” |
