Cop on ex wife assault charges
A police officer appeared in court today charged with attacking his former wife.
Sergeant Stephen Doogan (48), whose address was given as c/o Tayside Police, faced four charges.

The first alleges that between June 22, 2002, and June 21, 2004, he assaulted Donna Doogan, striking a door against her head.

The second alleges that between January 1 and December 31, 2006, he assaulted her by seizing her, dragging her from a bed, dragging her downstairs and into a garden. It is alleged he then locked the door and left her outside.

The third charge alleges that between January 1 and December 31, 2007, he assaulted her by repeatedly punching and kicking her on the head and body.

The fourth charge alleges that on May 10, 2008, he assaulted Donna Doogan by seizing her, struggling with her and pushing her to the ground, all to her injury.

Doogan’s solicitor George Donnelly said the parties were now divorced and there was no ongoing contact between them.

There was no reason in the public interest or the complainer’s interest for Doogan to be placed on bail, he added.

Depute fiscal Baljit Mooker asked that Doogan be placed on bail with the condition that he does not approach Donna Doogan.

Sheriff Summers agreed with Mr Donnelly and the case was continued without plea until April 9.
