| Rae, of Andrew Barton Street, appeared in private before Sheriff Alistair Duff. Represented by solicitor Hugh Duncan, from Ayr, he made no application for bail. The case was continued for further examination and Rae was remanded in custody.
Mum-of-three Mary went missing in the early hours of Thursday, February 25.
The 34-year-old gran-to-be’s body was discovered last Wednesday close to the city’s Ladywell Roundabout, North Marketgait.
Meanwhile, specially-trained Ministry of Defence officers from Faslane Naval Base on the Clyde have arrived at the location where Mary was found to carry out searches of higher areas of the embankment, as other police began to cut back trees and strip out deep undergrowth on the embankment (writes Graham Huband).
Mary went missing following a night out in Dundee city centre with her sister Michelle Rodger.
The pair had visited the Gauger pub in Seagate before heading to Fat Sam’s nightclub in South Ward Road to enjoy a dance together.
It is six days since a police search team found her body in the copse of trees on the embankment above the Ladywell Roundabout. Examinations have continued at the scene over the last 24 hours and a lane of North Marketgait remains closed to eastbound traffic.
Forensic squads — part of a 50-strong inquiry team — have been dredging drains on the roundabout as part of their “meticulous” work at the scene.
And they were later seen clearing drains in the King Street and Seagate areas of the city.
Officers using specialist equipment are also expected to conduct fingertip searches of higher and less accessible areas of the embankment on which Mary was found.
The scene — screened off by blue plastic sheeting for several days — has been the subject of feverish activity since Mary’s body was discovered by a police search team on Wednesday. Forensic officers have spent the intervening period photographing, videoing and cataloguing areas of interest.
Mary — who would have celebrated her birthday this weekend — is survived by her husband Scott, pregnant daughter Sarah-Jane (17) and sons Aaron (14) and Dylan (10). Her mother Margaret McIntosh (53) has told of the family’s heartbreak at Mary’s death and said she could not believe she was gone.
Her sister Lisa Hendry posted similar sentiments on Bebo, and a page set up on the social networking site in memory of Mary has been inundated with tributes from friends and strangers alike in the days since she was found. |
