Dundee City Council’s Labour Group believes the city cannot afford to miss out on what could potentially be hundreds of millions of pounds of off-shore renewable energy investment.
Scottish Enterprise expects to spend up to £25 billion in this sector over the next decade and we must be major players.
We are superbly qualified to engage with other partners on any proposed development and Dundee has both the practical and strategic capability needed to deliver in this new and exciting area.
The opportunities in terms of employment and education are enormous.
A clear and positive vision is needed to bring this to the city. — Councillor Tom Ferguson, Dundee City Council Labour Group.
Impressive? Maybe not
The view is ‘not so impressive’.
I was interested to read that a visitor found some parts of the waterfront development in Dundee impressive.
Well they say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From my vantage point I am not so sure if ‘impressive’ is the right word. I took a photo from near my home to illustrate my point.
Perhaps I am missing something, and do not have the architectural knowledge to appreciate what is on view, but it just looks a jumble to me, and a preview of what could be tomorrow’s slums. — Craigiebank.
Rail station upgrade not important
Regarding the visitor who said in yesterday’s letters that Dundee Railway Station can only be described as industrial and functional.
It doesn’t matter. Dundee needs more important things like an exhibition centre to bring people into the city.
Let’s set up an entertainment group and look at examples around Scotland. If it’s good for Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, then it’s got to be good for Dundee. — Happyhighlander.
Sorry to see May retire
I will be very sad to see The Holy Shop, or Congratulations as it is also known, close down.
The popular Lochee store is shutting its doors for the final time as manageress May Duncan is retiring at the age of 72.
I have been using this shop for years. It has always been handy when I was looking for a gift and card and it is part and parcel of the fabric of Lochee.
It’s hard to imagine the shop no longer being there. The times are certainly a-changing in the area.
Good luck to May on her retirement. It is long overdue. — Happy Shopper.

Bus timetable needs quick fix
The digital timetable at the Baffin Street bus stop in Dundee heading into town has not been working for over a month.
I have called the Dundee City Centre phone number twice to be told there is a Health and Safety issue and it would be fixed within a week or so.
However, it is still not fixed. This is a busy stop with several numbered buses passing frequently. — Baffled Baffin Street Traveller.
Mother’s Day event
The Cancer Research Shop in Lochee is holding a Mother’s Day fund-raiser at the Highgate Centre on Saturday from 12 to 3pm with lots of gifts for mums and grans, handmade jewellery, books, CDs and a tombola.
Come along and have a look.
