| The children at Menzieshill Nursery put on their dancing shoes in support of the Active Nation campaign, launching in five cities across Scotland.
The Dundee youngsters showed activity can be fun, getting involved in the dance event in their nursery, led by local choreographer Tommy Small.
The Active Nation campaign aims to get more people involved in exercise and a healthier lifestyle in the run up to Scotland hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
While the Games is the prompt, the campaign is not looking to turn out honed athletes but encourage everyone to get more active, whether that’s taking the stairs instead of the lift or getting off the bus a couple of stops early.
A newly launched website — www.ouractivenation.co.uk — directs people to local clubs where they can get involved in a variety of active pursuits. But those who prefer to go it alone can also monitor their progress using an activity tracker and activity diary.
Speaking at the launch of Active Nation, Minister for Public Health and Sport Shona Robison said, “Active Nation is about getting active, having fun and feeling good.
“It aims to energise and motivate all Scots to increase their physical activity in the run up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and beyond.” |
