Will action be taken after fire?
Can I trust the police will follow up on the admission of the man who, in the Douglas area of Dundee, has said he threw out a lit cigarette butt, which then caused a fire?

How much has this cost the taxpayer for the various emergency services and the subsequent repair of the damage caused?

His landlord will be out of pocket for the repairs.

If he or she is not, does that mean all the other landlords’ rent payers will have to share the bill for this, when their rents are increased to cover the likes of this incident?

At first glance, this does not seem like a big deal, but when you look at the bigger picture, there are some serious aspects to this, not least the tying up of a fire engine, while someone in a real emergency may have had to go without. — Disgusted, Dundee.

Sacrificial lambs not in our interest
After all the hype and investigations over the MP’s expenses fiasco which has exposed over a million pounds of wrongfully claimed expenses from our MPs, we have been handed four sacrificial lambs to try and quell the public anger over the issue.

I do not believe it is right to hold only four people accountable. It is not in the public interest to accept the sacrificial lambs on offer.

There were many other incidents highlighted throughout this period, which were questionable at the very least.

Either our MPs did wrong and should all face charges, or they should just tell us straight that there is no crime of theft when it is an elected member ripping off the electorate of this nation.

I believe that when these people face us at the next election we, the jury, will give our verdict on the issue. — Allan Petrie, Blacklock Crescent, Dundee.

Lorraine’s cardigan is up for auction

Margaret with Lorraine’s cardigan.

I write to let all Lorraine Kelly fans know the star has donated a beautiful beaded lambswool cardigan by Per Una to my shop for fundraising purposes, and I am holding a silent auction.

The highest offer secures this lovely cardigan along with a letter of provenance and an autographed photo of our lovely Lorraine. — Margaret Moonby, The Thrift Shop, 119 Albert Street, Dundee.

Asda has fairer petrol system
I read the article about the price of Tesco petrol being dearer on the Kingsway than in a petrol station in Broughty Ferry.

This should come as no surprise. I travel around the country a lot and the price of Tesco petrol varies considerably, unlike Asda who, when making a decision on price, apply it to every Asda filling station throughout the country. It is much fairer system. — Fairmuir.

Meal row tarnishes FM office
I was interested to read that First Minister Alex Salmond is to be investigated for offering businesses the chance to dine at the Scottish Parliament, following an auction at an SNP fundraising event.

The guidelines state that “the parliamentary campus should only be used for events relating to a member’s parliamentary duties”.

Mr Salmond’s interpretation of these guidelines is symptomatic of the arrogance of the SNP administration at Holyrood.

It leaves the office of First Minister tarnished by this latest investigation and the SNP open to a further charge, one of cash for access to Ministers. — Politics Watcher.

Party should ‘focus on real problems’
The unedifying spectacle of the Labour Party attempting to score political points over Alex Salmond’s dining arrangements is at once both predictable and disappointing.

It is a sign of the problems in the party that, at a time when it is presiding over the worst recession for half a century, our soldiers continue to die in an illegal war, and the expenses row, the best the party can do is focus on this.

This Labour Party is short on solutions to our very real problems. — The Watchman.

Scottish budget
So Labour has yet again voted against the budget in the Scottish Parliament.

Can the party explain why it voted against the Boiler Scrappage Scheme which Labour said was a priority? Or why it voted against a Council Tax freeze?

All because there is no money for Glasgow air link. Why is there no money? Because the Labour Government have reduced the Scottish Budget by over £800 million.

If it wasn’t so serious, it would be comical. — Political Connoisseur.
