Rising stars for quake gig
Two of Scotland’s most promising young singer-songwriters are the latest acts to sign up for Dundee’s Haiti benefit concert (writes David Clegg, GrapeVine reporter).
Tommy Reilly and Roddy Hart have been added to the bill for the gig at city venue Fat Sams on Saturday, February 20.

The concert is being organised by the Tele and sister paper The Courier to raise money for those affected by the quake last month.

Tommy Reilly shot to prominence at the end of 2008 when he won the Orange Unsigned Act competition. His debut single, Gimme A Call, hit no. 14 in the UK charts.

He told the Tele he was “honoured” to be asked to take part in the concert and was delighted to have the opportunity to help raise some money.

“It is great to get involved and be able to do my bit,” he said. “If we were in that position, we’d want other people to help.”

The 20-year-old is currently working on the follow up to his debut album, Words On The Floor, which was released to critical acclaim last September.

Roddy Hart is producing the record. Described as “one of Scotland’s best-kept secrets”, Roddy released his second album Sign Language last year. He has established himself as a classic songwriter, and is gaining a growing reputation for his live shows with band The Lonesome Fire.

“It’s important to help people like this who are in a tragic and desperate situation,” he said. “If we can do a small bit to help those suffering, then that is something we definitely want to get involved in.”

Roddy and Tommy will both play acoustic sets at the show, which has been supported by numerous local businesses. The Landmark Hotel and the Perth Holiday Inn Express are both providing accommodation for musicians taking part and local football teams, restaurants and fitness clubs have also provided prizes for a money-raising raffle.

Other acts confirmed include Michael Marra, members of The View and The Law, The Hazey Janes, Boogalusa, Luva Anna, Revolver and Dead Like Harry.

The night will be hosted by radio DJ Jim Gellatly and Sun columnist Martel Maxwell.

Tickets are on sale from Groucho’s and ticketmaster priced £15.
