Dundee pupils boost city’s Haiti relief fund
Earthquake-ravaged Haiti is to receive at least £12,250 thanks to the kind-hearted efforts of Dundee’s schools (writes Lisa Trainer).
The city’s relief fund received the money today after an on-going fund-raising effort, which has brought the total to over £12,250.

Pupils from Park Place and Craigowl primaries handed over the cheque for the Disaster Relief Fund to Lord Provost John Letford, who said, “The money has been coming in from all areas in the community.

“Within the first two days, £1000 had been raised and it has continued along similar lines. We’ll get the trustees together and have a meeting with a view to deciding how to disperse the money.

“Ideally, we’d like to find a Haiti connection in Dundee and ensure the people of Dundee know exactly where the money has gone. There have been donations from £5 to thousands and some have been anonymous donors.

“I’m really pleased at the amount raised, but not surprised with the reaction in the city and across Scotland. I’m particularly pleased Dundee has raised so much and I’m sure there will be much more coming in.

“I’m very proud of the way people are doing what they can to help. This shows the care and compassion they have for the people of Haiti following the disaster.”

The generosity of the Dundee schools continued with an additional £5500 also raised for a range of local charities.
