Doubt over Burns Club’s future

The club’s premises.

The fate of Lochee Burns Club, one of Dundee’s oldest, will be decided at a special meeting this weekend (writes David Clegg).
Members are to meet on Sunday to decide the future of the Old Muirton Road premises.

The Tele understands the club faces financial problems and there have been rumours it is to close, though a spokeswoman insisted no decision would be taken until the meeting.

“There have been loads of rumours going about that have not been helpful to us, but any decision will be taken by the members as a whole,” she said.

It is not the first time the club has been dogged by financial issues. In 2008, a row broke out between members over the introduction of a £1 entrance fee.

Some members thought the charge unfair as they already paid membership fees. At the time it emerged Sunday nights at the club were running at a loss.
