Dundee fixture switch
Dundee’s game against Airdrie United this weekend has been switched to Dens Park on Sunday with a 3 pm kick-off (writes Graeme Finnan).
The Dark Blues were scheduled to meet the Diamonds at New Broomfield on Saturday, but, with no chance of the game going ahead there due to a frozen pitch, Dundee made hasty inquiries about moving it.

Those suggestions paid dividends at lunchtime today when all the parties concerned gave the green light to a switch.

“We’ve agreed, along with Airdrie United and the SFL to postpone the game at Airdrie on Saturday and play it here on Sunday,” said Dundee boss Jocky Scott this afternoon.

“The weather has been worse through there than it has been here and they have no undersoil heating, so we asked them if they would be willing to change the fixture, mainly so both teams could get a game.

“They agreed and the SFL OK’d it.

“Our main concern was to get a game because it is important we keep playing. It shows our intentions that we are willing to put our heating on to get games played.

“Supporters are always looking for games over the festive period, but we came out of the hat with two away fixtures — at Inverness Caley and Airdrie United — which meant they were having to travel a fair distance

“Hopefully, now we’ve managed to get the game on here, they will turn up in good numbers.”

The club will hold a precautionary inspection on Sunday morning at 10 am and the police will be in attendance. As it was in the last home game against Morton, the South Enclosure will be closed.

United beat big freeze by training on pitch
The Arctic blast across the country continued, but that didn’t stop the Dundee United players going through their paces as they prepared for tomorrow’s game against Rangers at Ibrox (writes Graeme Finnan).
As the squad arrived at Tannadice this morning, the temperature was still below freezing. However, the undersoil heating ensured the first team had a good workout.

“We’ve been on the pitch today and that allowed us to go over things like set-plays ahead of tomorrow’s game,” said caretaker boss Peter Houston.

Coming back into the picture after missing out against Kilmarnock at the weekend are midfielder Morgaro Gomis, who has completed a ban, and striker Andis Shala.

“Andis has been getting a bit of bother with his groin, but he says he’s OK and we’ll see how he goes,” added Peter.

Meanwhile, Scott Robertson is set for another trip to see a specialist over his recurring groin problem.

The midfielder only recently returned to the squad after a spell on the sidelines, but continues to feel pain in the area following games.

That resulted in him being left out at the weekend and the club feel it would be in the player’s best interests if he was checked out again.

“We are not 100% sure what the problem is,” said Peter.

“But I’ve spoken to the physio and the club doctor and we feel he should go back and see a specialist.

“It’s a frustrating time for Scott and for the club. He was getting to the stage of feeling really good about himself then, a few games later, he is feeling sore again.

“If it means another operation then he will have to get that done. This has been going on for a year now, so we need to get it sorted.”

Saints game postponed
Due to the adverse weather conditions, St Johnstone’s home game against Hibs tomorrow night has been called off (writes James Masson).
The McDiarmid Park pitch and car park are under eight inches of snow and, while the pitch could have been tackled, the car park is a different proposition.

With no end to the freezing temperatures, the decision has been made to cancel the fixture. The postponement gives defender Dave Mackay more time to recover from his hip injury and the Perth side are hopeful he’ll make Saturday’s game at Falkirk.

Of the other injured players, Andy Jackson has upped his training, but Stuart McCaffrey will be unable to train for a further 10 days. Collin Samuel should be back in training by the end of the month, while Kevin Rutkiewicz and Martin Hardie remain on the long-term injured list.

Meanwhile, Saints have spoken to ex-Rangers defender Craig Moore about him signing a short-term deal. His season with Brisbane Roar is about to end and he wants to stay sharp ahead of Australia’s participation in the World Cup Finals.
