We enjoyed a trip to the Whitehall Theatre in Dundee last week to see Thomson Leng’s new production of Annie.
It was fantastic. What talent. Annie and the principals did a wonderful job.
Miss Hannigan and her orphans stole the show by making everybody laugh and we all waited to sing along with the orphans when they sang “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile”.
Thomson Leng should be very proud of all the children. Well done.
It was wonderful and I hope many people take the opportunity to see it. — Ann & Jo, Dundee.
Only asked once about hand washing
The debate about C.diff in Ninewells will go on unless the management are open.
They need to be honest. When they close a ward, they need to inform the patients why the ward is being closed and, if there is an infection, what symptoms to look out for.
Last year my aunt died. She contracted C.diff in Ninewells, but her main illness was registered as the cause on her death certificate.
The last few days of her life she was in a side ward. I used the obligatory hand wash every time I visited, but was surprised that I was able to walk straight into her room and asked only once if I had washed my hands.
A person so highly infectious should be barrier nursed and visitors should be kept to a minimum.
I have spoken to quite a few Dundee people who have specifically asked to go to Stracathro or Perth Royal Infirmary for their operations, because Ninewells has such a bad reputation when it comes to infection control.
Well-trained, sufficient nursing staff, cleaning staff, and most importantly, “old style matrons”, employed to oversee all wards, would make a marked difference to the quality of care in Ninewells Hospital. — Realist.
Earn Crescent neglected
I contacted Dundee City Council to inquire about the notice that has been tied to a parking permit holders pole in Earn Crescent, Menzieshill.
This notice states that the missing lamppost that once stood there had been knocked down by an unknown vehicle and had been removed by the council.
It will not be replaced until the owner of the offending vehicle comes forward.
They are dreaming if they think someone will read the notice and feel the urge to own up to a crime. After all, he or she did not own up to it at the time.
In the last few weeks, there was a young woman mugged at knife-point, just yards from this darkly-lit spot. Then there’s the other concern that car owners who rent a council garage in Earn Crescent had little or no light before the removal, now I won’t entertain the idea of putting my car away, it’s so dark.
Earn Crescent is fast becoming the most neglected street in Menzieshill. Yet, there is a primary school at one end of Earn Crescent and an old folk’s home at the other. — In The Dark.
Fury over absence of Christmas
I am disgusted at this year’s proposals from the SNP Administration on Dundee City Council regarding the switching on of the Christmas Lights.
Why has the word Christmas been removed?
The report submitted to the council says the Winter Light Night is to celebrate culture but is Christmas not part of our culture?
And to my knowledge no other ethnic of religious group has ever been offended by our most important religious celebration (Christmas).
In fact, a number of my friends who are not Christians have said how angry they are that we are having our special day watered down.
Also within the report it is stated, “A number of consultations have taken place with key stakeholders to encourage their views on such an event and the feedback so far has been positive about the event and combining it with Christmas celebrations.”
I think it should have been the people who were consulted more.
Dundee City Council could easily have held the traditional lighting of the Christmas lights as usual and then had the Winter Light Night at New Year, an event the SNP always said in opposition should happen. — Allan Petrie, Blacklock Crescent, Dundee.
Divisive decision
It’s my opinion that Dundee City Council has not thought about the decision regarding the Winter Light Night festival.
Their decision to abolish Christmas lights in favour of winter ones is divisive.
I already have furious locals getting in my cab discussing it.
It’s the fault of the elected members who pander to diversity and politically correct multi-culturism. — George Aimer, Kinghorne Road, Dundee.
How dare they?
How dare Dundee City Council try to change our traditional Christmas? We have been celebrating Christmas this way for many years. I and many others I have spoken to won’t be coming to the Christmas lights being turned on. — Irene P, Whitfield Gardens, Dundee.
Ludicrous
What does Dundee City Council think it is playing at by renaming Dundee’s Christmas Lights switch on, Winter Light Night?
I have never heard anything so ludicrous in all my life. — Jack Black, Albert Street, Dundee.
Dream come true
I am a 40-something man living in Balbeggie, just outside Perth.
After years of trying, I have just been given a charity place to run in the Virgin London Marathon on April 25, 2010.
I have been overwhelmed at the amount of support I have received through local businesses and my local pub, the Balbeggie Arms, not to mention my work colleagues.
I have never done a marathon in my life and have just started on a 24-week training plan through the charity Children With Leukaemia.
I thank everyone for helping me make my dream come true. My sponsorship can be followed on www.virginmoneygiving.com/markanderson. — Mark Anderson, Balbeggie, Perth.
