Suspicious fire: police appeal
Police in Dundee were today continuing their probe into a suspicious fire at a Douglas tenement block which left residents there fearing for their safety (writes James Williamson).
It understood that the blaze, which took hold in a top-floor flat in Balmerino Road early on Saturday morning, had three separate seats of fire, leading the authorities to suspect foul play.

Tayside Police and Tayside Fire and Rescue have launched a joint investigation.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the blaze after the alarm was raised by a passer-by around 4.45am.

Police are appealing for potential witnesses — or anyone who was in the area between 9pm on Friday and 5am on Saturday — to contact them by calling 0300 111 2222, or alternatively Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
