| Millipore, which is based at the city’s Technology Park, has stressed the job losses are in response to difficult market conditions, and that there are no plans to downsize its Dundee operation.
Tom O’Leary, Millipore’s senior human resources manager for the UK and Ireland said, “Millipore Corporation operates at five locations in the UK, two of which are located in Scotland.
“Our site in Dundee, which provides products and services to the biopharmaceutical sector enhancing their drug discovery efforts, has been open since 1999.
“This week, Millipore announced a reduction in work force affecting four people, reducing our permanent work force in Dundee from 42 to 38 people.
“At this time, Millipore has no plans to make any further reduction to its operation.
“We informed nine colleagues that their position had been selected for redundancy.
“We have alternative positions for five of those colleagues — therefore four colleagues will ultimately leave the organisation.
“However we can’t comment any further, as we are currently involved in a process with the affected colleagues.”
He also declined to comment on the nature of the roles identified as surplus to requirements.
The firm specialises in designing and supplying tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and boasts more than 5500 staff in 47 countries.
Millipore bought the former Dundee University spin-out Upstate Inc. from the Serologicals Corporation in 2006. |
