Calum’s call to fans
Dundee fans have been urged to ignore thoughts of a boycott and turn out in big numbers for next week’s “floodlight derby” at Tannadice (writes Tom Duthie).
The friendly has been arranged to mark the installation of Dundee United’s new hi-tech lighting system, but a section of the Dark Blues support intends staying away in order to avoid boosting the Tangerines’ coffers.

With, however, the gate money being split between the clubs and going to their respective youth set-ups, Dens backer Calum Melville wants a big away support.

“Personally, I’ve heard a lot about how good derbies in Dundee are and I am looking forward to my first experience of one, so it’s a game I don’t want to miss,” said Melville.

“There has not been one for a while now, so I’m hoping the fans feel the same way and we get a big crowd.

“And, to be perfectly honest, what is more important to me than christening new floodlights is the good the game can do in terms of bringing in funds for our youths.

“I want to assure our fans that every single penny we make will go to our set-up and that makes this an important game. We have spent a bit of money on players this season, but for a club like us it is vital we get back to producing our own talent and I know Jocky Scott feels that way.”
