| Police said the trio knocked on his door in Cheviot Crescent, Fintry, around 7.15pm and spoke to the 25 year old before forcing their way in.
Their victim was then subjected to repeated assaults, suffering a large cut to his head and an arm injury. He was taken to Ninewells Hospital.
The attackers made off empty-handed in a dark coloured car with a spoiler.
One is in his late 20s to early 30s, with short receding brown hair. He wore a blue and white jacket and blue jeans.
The second is of a similar age, with a gaunt face. He wore dark clothing.
The final attacker is thought to be older. He is around 5ft 8ins, heavily built, and has dark wavy hair, brushed back. He also has a dark heavy growth on his face.
He wore a black jacket with a large silver zip, black muddy work trousers, and a pair of black steel toe-capped boots.
