Raising funds in Tele territory

Ardler Over 50+ and Chuckles group held a pyjama party.

Schools, businesses and organisations across Tele territory took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning today, to help raise money for charity (writes April Mitchinson).
There was massive support in Dundee for the coffee morning, which is Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraising event, as 110 different groups against a registration target of 86 took part.

With an extra 24 groups participating in the annual event, organisers hope to smash the projected fundraising target of £16,000.

In Angus, 83 groups against a targeted 79 registered for the event. They hope to raise around £15,000.

But fundraisers in Fife and Perth and Kinross may struggle to achieve their projected fundraising targets, as registration numbers were much lower than anticipated.

In Fife, 208 groups against a target of 242 must try to raise a whopping £45,000 if Macmillan is to meet its 2009 national target of £8.6 million.

In Perth and Kinross, only 114 groups against a targeted 226 groups registered to participate. Fundraisers there may now struggle to raise the projected £42,000.

Last year, coffee mornings held in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland managed to raise £7.5 million for Macmillan.

Everyday 822 people in the UK are told they have cancer and Macmillan’s ambition is to help every one of these people by providing them with the medical, emotional, practical and financial support they need.

Now in its 19th year, more than 45,000 coffee mornings were held simultaneously.
