| At a press conference held in the City Chambers, he said he’d explained in the joint report that he and co-author, Independent Social Work Consultant Jimmy Hawthorn had examined the “facts”.
He said they interviewed staff and their statements are of what investigations were carried out at the time.
Mr Hawthorn added again that he felt as the reports had been published in full that Dundee City Council should be commended for that.
Asked if he thought the three-week period between “an urgent meeting of child protection partners” on February 28, 2008 and “an urgent case conference” set for March 18, was appropriate given the use of the word urgent, Mr Wilson replied that, “Again I would say they looked at the information and there was ‘nothing at that stage’ to set any alarm bells ringing.
What they had and what they did had to be measured against whether it was appropriate to remove a child at that stage.
Mr Hawthorn again reiterated he “didn’t see it as a systemic failure”, although as he said in his report there was areas to be tightened up.
“That’s a very different thing,” he said.
He said, “in terms of what was known about Cunningham and about in particular Heather Boyd while she was with living with her family he said, “The family were below the radar.” |
