No recycling incentive due to charges
As one half of a working couple in Dundee who pay both Income Tax and Council Tax I find it hard to believe I still have to pay for some council services.

We had two conifers taken down and the trunk used as logs for firewood. We stripped off the branches, but there were too many to get to the skip in the car.

The council cleansing department was phoned and an inspector was sent out to see the amount and assess a price for taking them to recycling and making compost which they sell to the public.

We do our bit constantly for recycling and sort our rubbish to help the planet.

The price for taking away the branches is £48.

Where is the incentive to be environmentally friendly when you get a bill like that on top of taxes? — Disgusted Recyclers.

Take pride in your garden

Ancrum Drive

In response to the letter regarding the unkempt hedges of Ancrum Drive, Dundee, I agree with Long Term Resident who bemoaned the state of some gardens.

It is a total disgrace the way Ancrum Drive has deteriorated over the last few years.

I have lived in Ancrum Drive for 41 years and I am disgusted at some of the residents who do not seem to have any respect whatsoever for the state of their property.

I am a keen gardener, but I am so disheartened at times when I see how other people let the area down through sheer neglect.

There are quite a few gardens and hedges in the drive needing serious attention although by far the Tullideph Road end of the drive has become outrageous with hedges around 10-15 feet.

Surely, the people who are responsible for these must know they are letting everybody at that end of the drive down by their neglectful attitude to their property.

Please, get your act together, tidy up the area and make it the beautiful street it used to be.

Have some pride in your property and yourselves. — Proud Gardener.

Charity cheque
The South Road Park Action Group is no longer active in the campaign against a proposed Asda Store on South Road Park, Dundee.

The committee has decided to donate the remaining £335 in the group’s account to the Breast Cancer Fund at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

We thank everyone who helped during the campaign. — George Sivewright.

Appalling
I was appalled at the behaviour of four people shouting and swearing, especially the mother of a little girl in a buggy who was frightened.

They appeared to be high on drugs.

I felt concerned for the little girl. I dread to think what she may be subjected to in the home.

The mother of the boyfriend, a small, frail-looking woman, was also getting a mouthful from the child’s so-called mother.

They all ended up going into the Overgate Centre.

Shoppers should not be subjected to this kind of behaviour. I felt like phoning the police. — Concerned Shopper.

Buses hidden
The ongoing saga of the condition of Conchies corner on the A930 Monifieth to Carnoustie “almost” hiding the oncoming buses defies belief. The best way to explain it is in verse:

See how tall the grass it grows,

Nae seen in Brechin or Montrose,

Wi’ rutted road around the bend,

And signs uprooted in need o’ mend,

‘The Alliance may wonder what the fuss is,

But soon we’ll no’ see the buses,

Untidy mess. . . a crying shame,

C’mon you lads let’s play the game,

And here my ditty it will end,

When you pit right ‘oor Conchies bend. — Eddie Wilmott, Ravensby Road, Carnoustie.
