Make Dundee more attractive place to live
Why is Dundee’s population going down? It’s now at 142,470, which marks a steady decline.

No wonder all the pubs are closing early. There is very little going on in this city to encourage people to stay.

Apart from Saturday, every other night it’s like a ghost town.

It goes beyond social occasions, too. Edinburgh and Glasgow have massive office parks, Dundee has supermarket car parks.

There are areas in which the city excels such as the two universities, an exceptional teaching hospital and biotechnology and digital industries, but the fact remains, the population is going down. No-one seems to want to stay here. Why?

Dundee needs to offer an attractive quality of life. There is no point being industry leaders if we cannot keep the calibre of employees needed to maintain that position. We need more entertainment for the people who are here and to encourage more to come from outside the city.

We have a cultural quarter, but we need to expand on that to make people think “Dundee’s a place I could see myself staying in”. More arts, culture, restaurants, etc, are the key. — Happyhighlander.

School reunion
We have arranged a class reunion for the P6 pupils of St Mary’s Lochee Primary School from 1957/58. Partners very welcome.

The reunion is to take place in Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday commencing at 7.30pm. Dress informal. There were no school uniforms in those days.

We have had around 20 positive responses, but if this is the first you have heard of the reunion and were in our class, please feel free to turn up on the evening. There will be no cost to you.

This is a chance to meet up once again with your old school mates and catch up with what’s happened with our lives.

Anyone who wants to find out more can e-mail me on brianbolden@yahoo.co.uk — Brian Bolden.

Time to stand alone?
Being Lochee-born (1938) I have always believed that owing to the size of the area we should govern our own affairs. Lochee, like Broughty Ferry, was swallowed up by Dundee.

Now is the time for the big change. Let’s have our own town council and provost.

Let’s be open to the people about what is happening around them.

Maybe, if we can come together as a community, we can make Lochee great again. — C. A. Walker, Lochee, Dundee.

Why wait until now to ask question?
I notice that Labour councillor Kevin Keenan wishes to know how much alcohol problems cost Dundee City Council. It does beg the question: why has he waited until he is leader of the opposition to raise this matter?

Surely, if this issue is so important to him he should have gotten these answers when leader of the administration and come up with a policy to tackle this problem.

Perhaps when he raises this at a council meeting his first action would be to admit his administration’s failings in this matter and apologise. — Political Connoisseur.

Psychic night
The British Heart Foundation is holding a psychic night on Wednesday in Lyrics Bar in St Andrews Lane, Dundee.

Tickets are £5 and it starts around 7.30pm.

Anyone wanting tickets can contact me on ryanstewart56789@hotmail.com or pay at the door.

All money made goes to the Heart of Discovery appeal which is funding research at Ninewells Hospital. — Ryan Stewart, British Heart Foundation Volunteer.

Heard it all before
Billy Connolly lives in California in a huge home with swimming pool, maids, etc. Good for him, he earned it.

He has been on American TV for decades and has made a lot of money in the process.

He makes total fools of Scots and Scottish culture when on American television talk shows, just as he makes fools of Americans when on British TV.

Anything for a laugh? Maybe so.

Remember, it was the late Harry Lauder who travelled the world making fun of the cheap, canny, dour Scots, a stigma that has stuck to this very day.

The Big Yin is no fool, he gets his laughs using any tool. I’ve heard it all before. — New Jersey.

Ring found
While shopping in Tesco, Kingsway, Dundee, I found a ladies ring by the till. If you can describe this ring please contact 01382 817213. — Mr Elder.
