Annie with Lord Provost Letford and some of her family.

Dundee’s newest centenarian, Annie Lawrence, had a special visit from Lord Provost John Letford today.
Mrs Lawrence, who was born in Lochee on August 9, 1909, had celebrated her milestone with family and friends at the Balhousie Moyness care home in Broughty Ferry.

Mr Letford enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat with the 100-year-old.

Mrs Lawrence (nee Nicoll) married the late George Lawrence at the Albert Halls, Tullideph Road, in September, 1936. The couple lived in Lochee and had two children, Nan and George.

Mrs Lawrence went to Harris Academy and started her working career in Cox’s Mill. She then worked in her family shop, Nicolls, until it and the surrounding tenements were cleared to make way for the Lochee by-pass.

Mrs Lawrence has eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
