| The Youth Commission on Alcohol wants city residents to contribute to the year-long project.
Members of the Commission, all aged between 14 and 22, will produce a report that will help inform the Scottish Government’s approach to tackling alcohol misuse.
The commissioners, including 20-year-old Dundonian Nick Henderson, will consider academic reports, anecdotal evidence and other material in their investigation into Scotland’s drink culture.
The 18-member forum met with the Public Health minuster and Dundee East MSP Shona Robison last month to discuss the plans.
“The Youth Commission on Alcohol is a crucial part of engaging Scotland’s young people in the debate on tackling alcohol misuse,” Ms Robison said.
“As the future of Scotland, their views and experiences are absolutely essential if we hope to bring about long-lasting change for the better in our country’s drinking culture.
“Meeting with the commissioners to discuss their work and the way ahead was inspiring.
“These young people have real drive and I am in no doubt their final report will be a valuable contribution to the national discussion.”
Louise Macdonald, CEO of Young Scot, the national youth information agency, said, “The Youth Commission for Alcohol is a really positive initiative for Scotland.
“It’s fantastic that the country’s young people have the opportunity to directly influence Government policy.
“It’s going to be really exciting to see the work develop over the coming year.”
The research forms part of the Government’s Framework for Action, which launched in March.
