| A Tele reader who lives in the area complained that cars are regularly being parked in the grounds at the front of the school during the summer holidays.
City council education convener and councillor for Maryfield, Liz Fordyce, confirmed there had been a problem with unauthorised parking in the grounds.
“This is not a car park and people shouldn’t be leaving their cars there, whether it’s the school holidays or not,” she said. “I would be even more concerned if motorists got into the habit of parking there and tried to continue after the pupils have gone back. That would be putting the pupils’ safety at risk.”
A check of the grounds showed a number of cars parked on the gravel path around the central grass area in front of the school. One vehicle was parked with two of its wheels on the grass.
Mrs Fordyce pointed out that to get into the grounds, drivers had to pass signs clearly stating that vehicular access was for staff and deliveries only and that CCTV cameras are in operation with images being recorded for crime prevention and public safety.
“Drivers know they shouldn’t be parking in the grounds as notices telling them not to leave cars there have been placed under the windscreen wipers of several vehicles,” Councillor Fordyce said.
A spokesman for the council said they would be investigating what further action can be taken against people parking in the school grounds. |
