| The pensioners shared stories about their childhoods with the 14 to 16-year-olds of the Scout troop from Longford, near Dublin, over a good old-fashioned meal of tea and toast.
The teens are visiting all week through an exchange scheme with the Grey Lodge Settlement Project, and will return the favour to their Scottish counterparts later this year.
After the breakfast trip, the teens, accompanied by 10 young men and women from the Tay Youth Group, visited the Barry Buddon army training camp near Monifieth.
They were put through their paces by military professionals by taking part in an outdoor assault course and working on their team-building skills.
Grey Lodge group worker Alan Duncan, who helped organise the trip, said it had been a “great opportunity for the youngsters to realise how much fun they can have away from their computer screens”.
“We’ve been doing something outdoors every day,” he added.
“We took part in a high ropes course at Monikie Country Park at the weekend, took a hill walk in the Lomonds and got the chance to watch the Dundee United vs. Newcastle United game in an executive box.
“The breakfast trip was also a big hit with the elderly residents and the young people. They shared stories about their childhoods and talked about how much life has changed over the years.” |
