| Although preparatory work has been ongoing for weeks, the road was only closed on Wednesday for five days to allow the removal process to take place.
Workmen will be on site until late August, when the job is due to be finished.
Diversions are now in place, which have forced temporary route changes on National Express, most notably the closure of Craigie Avenue to buses.
Services are being diverted along Broughty Ferry Road then back up Dalgleish Road, missing out Craigie Avenue completely.
However, locals claim the company did not make as big an effort as it could have to inform its customers of the new arrangements.
Residents say some bus shelters in the Craigiebank area do not offer any information regarding diversions, and neither does the company’s website.
One Craigiebank resident contacted the Tele to say there was a notice on a bus shelter in the city centre — the only notification he could find on the subject.
The man, a regular bus user, said, “I only found out about the bus diversions by chance.
“I spotted an A4 notice on one of the bus shelters outside Primark on Wednesday night.
“Had I not been in the city centre, I wouldn’t have known about the diversions. To make matters worse, I walked to my usual stop this morning to find no information whatsoever.
“So if I hadn’t seen that notice, I’d have been waiting at the stop and missed my bus — and I’d be very surprised if people haven’t missed buses because of this.”
Another local resident said she did just that, standing at her usual stop before realising too late the buses were taking a different route into town.
She said, “It was just as well I was going to the shops and not to work.
“I can’t believe the bus company hasn’t put something up on the shelters to let folk know what’s happening.”
A check last night by the Tele found some bus stops had notices and some did not. It wasn’t clear when the notices were placed on the shelters.
National Express maintained that notices did go up on bus shelters and inspectors were also out earlier this week to advise customers.
The company said the easiest way to update customers is by bus stop signage — something that can be done more quickly than posting notices on board buses.
A spokesperson said, “Due to road works on Greendykes Road we have been forced to temporarily divert several bus stops.
“Diversion notices have been displayed on affected stops and our inspectors have been on hand throughout the area to advise and support customers unsure of the changes.” |
