| Organisers have revealed what they feel is their best-ever programme of events, and it’s already attracting inquiries from overseas.
Headliners Peatbog Faeries and Michael Marra are joined by Orkney band Saltfishforty, Dundee-born, internationally-renowned harpist Catriona McKay, and Norwegian fiddle/viola maestro Nils Okland and the Hotseats, along with a host of other local and travelling acts.
That line-up has already attracted emails, calls and web inquiries from as far as Australia and California, and organisers hope to attract audiences from a huge geographic spread, including Dundonians who have left the area to live elsewhere.
The festival will provide the finale to Dundee’s Homecoming Week in October and will host countless concerts, workshops, community events and films, with opportunities to participate for music lovers of any age.
Launching Fest ’n’ Furious at the Wighton Centre in Dundee today, Artistic Director and singing legend Sheena Wellington snapped up the first online ticket for the festival.
Sheena said, “Every year, the festival team bring something new to the party and, in this Homecoming Year, the innovations come fest and furious! And, now you can book your tickets online.”
As well as the main concert programme, the festival also hosts some more specialist events.
The final day of the festival includes The Big Sing, which will hear individual sets by choirs from Berwick to Birmingham.
The concert finale features a new commission from Michael Marra, The Wrights of Man, which tells the story of Dundee-born Frances Wright who fought for the abolition of slavery and the rights of all men and women in pre-abolition America.
Another highlight will be a Homecoming Hootenanny, taking place in the Apex Hotel and seven Dundee community centres.
The festival runs from October 2 to 4. For more information phone Emily Dewhurst on 01382 432473, email emily.dewhurst@dundeecity.gov.uk, or log in to www.fest nfurious.co.uk.
With online booking incorporated into the website, free tickets and accommodation for the person travelling the furthest are also up for grabs.
The festival is a City Council initiative, supported by Homecoming Scotland 2009, EventScotland, Scottish Arts Council and the Angus and Dundee Area Tourism Partnership. |
