Dee plans hit by late call-off

WE’RE OFF! RAB DOUGLAS, CRAIG FORSYTH and TONY BULLOCK get set to load their bags onto the bus as Dundee set off for Austria today.

Dundee set off for their week-long training camp in Austria this morning, but missing from their numbers was Bryan Deasley (writes Graeme Finnan).
The young striker complained of feeling unwell yesterday and, with no sign of improvement today, was immediately pulled out of the squad.

There is a chance, however, the 21-year-old Dundonian could join up with his team-mates over the weekend.

“Bryan started feeling ill yesterday and we’ve had to pull him out,” said boss Jocky Scott today.

“We simply can’t run the risk that other people are going to get the bug.

“Bryan has been sent home and he’ll stay there until he feels better.

“If he shows signs of a big improvement over the next couple of days, we’ll try to get him out with us.”

Fellow-striker Leigh Griffiths was withdrawn from the squad on Tuesday due to a mystery virus which has forced him to miss training for more than a week.

Meanwhile, Jocky was relishing the prospect of getting his new-look team away, and he’ll get the first chance to see them in competitive action in games against SV Hallwang on Saturday and FC Augsburg on Tuesday.

Before boarding the team bus which set off from Dens this morning, he said, “We have a number of new guys at the club, so it’s important to get away so they can bond with the rest of the team and get to know each other a lot better.

“Living together allows them to do just that and, from a training point of view, they are at our disposal 24 hours a day.

“They don’t have to go home for tea and we can train at any time we wish. That allows us to take our time going over things, we won’t have to rush to get the work done and they get to know exactly what I am looking for.”

The manager is also looking forward to seeing his troops in a game situation.

He added, “We had a practice match yesterday and, while it’s different to playing a game against another side, I have to admit some of the football was very, very good.

“Now we have to make sure we carry that into the matches out there.”

Former Dundee midfielder Mark Fotheringham has been at Dens this week after being granted training facilities by the Dark Blues.

Fotheringham is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Norwich City.
