ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR OUT OF HAND
Another weekend has gone by in the Fintryside area of Dundee and it’s been yet another weekend of problems.
I wish the authorities could see the anti-social behaviour we have to endure. All they have to do is come down here and sit in their car and they will observe at least eight children who appear to be under five, riding their bikes on roads, not moving for cars, shouting, swearing, throwing stones, etc.

Something has to be done before one of them ends up dead. Where are their parents or carers?

It’s not just young children either. There is a man on the same street as me who, every weekend without fail, is out on the street with baseball bat or knife in hand challenging all comers. I have seen him do this several times. It is terrifying. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. There are parties every weekend, which inevitably get out of hand. — Mr Fintryside.

Water valve vandalism
Another summer and some children come out in force equipped with their poles for opening mains water valves all over Mid Craigie, Linlathen and Fintry, making everyone’s life a misery. Even their own families having no water for hours on end.
On Monday I was driving down Pitkerro Road behind a police car and there were four people walking down the pavement and clearly carrying a water pole valve.

The parents should be fined for the action of their children, then maybe it would stop. Who pays for this water? Us. The water board don’t care because if they did they could fit locked covers to water valves in ground. — Dave, Dundee.

Residential area not race track
I read with interest about boy racers on the streets of Dundee.
We, as a family, happen to enjoy motorsport but we draw the line at our immediate environment in the Maryfield area turning into Silverstone.

Apparently a boy racer moved into our area approximately six months ago and although he lives two streets away, he and his friends have managed to disrupt our family’s enjoyment of our home and surrounding area.

Our children have been frightened several times by these characters racing out of Bonnyrigg Place.

I have seen the speed they take corners and accelerate fast along Rodd Road.

The most annoying thing is the noise. I hear them before I see them. The constant revving of engines is intolerable especially late at night — goodness knows how the immediate neighbours feel.

We believe there have been complaints to Tayside Police and I hope action is taken soon before there are serious consequences.

This is a residential area; does an accident need to happen before anything is done? — Sleepless in Rodd Road.

Budgie Bonanza

Tayside Budgerigar Society held an open event in Dundee recently.
Pictured are Mrs C. Slavin, the wife of our Canadian judge, with Mr J. McLeman from Peterhead, who was awarded the prize for Best Budgerigar in Show.

The show was a big success. We had 615 birds from all over Scotland and thanks to all for their support. — Derek Shaw, Club Secretary.

Landlords should also be held to account
Having lived in private accommodation all my adult life, I respond to the agency using the ‘Rent Dodger’ notice in Dundee’s Morgan Street.
That would be fair if we can start to get tenants to put up similar ones: ‘Slum Landlord Runs This Property’ — with a list of outstanding maintenance issues, without fear of eviction of course.

The streets would be littered with them and I’m guessing quite a few of their properties as well.

Surprisingly, landlords and agencies seem a lot less concerned about maintenance and tenants’ welfare in Dundee than anywhere else I’ve lived. — Concerned.

Properties not being maintained
I live not far from the Morgan Street property with the ‘Rent Dodgers’ sign on the window.
The rights and wrongs of the sign apart, I was somewhat bemused to read that the letting company were quoted as claiming that “costs involved in maintaining properties are ever increasing”.

A cursory inspection of the property and the back garden suggests that not much money has been spent for a long time on maintaining it.

I’m not supporting people not paying rent, but I’d suggest that all letting companies might wish to look at the condition of their properties before coming down hard on tenants. — Dave Moncur.

Insult to Queen and voters
Holyrood’s MSP snub to The Queen makes a mockery of the Scottish Parliament.
Even MSPs couldn’t have failed to notice The Queen was there by invitation. It was their duty to be there as representatives of the people.

Not turning up was an insult to the Scottish Parliament and to voters.

I’ll bet she now wishes she, too, hadn’t bothered to turn up, and had she done so, I wonder what the MSPs would have said? — Extremely Embarrassed Voter, Dundee.

Curtains left
Would the woman who purchased the striped bed set and matching curtains at the Errol Car Boot Sale a week past on Sunday please contact me as she forgot to take the curtains. I can be phoned on 0787 7306881. — Annette Tosh.

Panic attack help
I suffer from panic attacks. There are limits to where I go. Is there anywhere in Dundee that can help? I’m not alone in this, as I know a few more like me. — Mrs T. Grant.

Missing cat
Our cat Alfie has gone missing. He was last seen Saturday July 4, in the Arbroath Road area of Dundee. He is a large white and tabby cat wearing a black collar. If you have seen him, please call 453884. — Upset.
