| Around 20 cars at the Buttar’s Loan Service Station — including four Mercedes, a Jaguar and two Land Rover Freelanders — were targeted in the attack. Police said the damage was so serious the vehicles would need either full re-sprays or would be written off.
Lochee councillor Tom Ferguson said every effort would be made to bring the perpetrator to book.
He added, “This kind of action will not be tolerated. We are going to come down heavily on anyone who thinks they can get away with that sort of thing.
“Businesses like this are contributing to the local economy and I'll certainly be asking the community police to give the Buttar’s Loan area some special attention.
“We’re in the process now of looking at all areas of Lochee to see where security can be tightened up.”
It is understood someone forced their way into Buttar’s Loan Service Station between 6.30pm on July 1 and 8.45 am the following day. They found cars listed for sale and others that appeared to be in the garage for mechanical work.
The vehicles targeted all had “for sale” signs on them. Not all of the cars in the compound were damaged. Police said the newest car targeted was dated around 2003/04.
The corrosive liquid stripped and bubbled the finish of the cars and most were said to have had many panels damaged.
A local resident, who did not wish to be named, said, “I was walking past when I noticed one of the cars had been damaged. It was pretty obvious there was a lot of damage.
“When I took a closer look I saw it wasn’t the only one that had been affected.”
It is understood there are two parts to the business — Buttar’s Loan Car Sales and Buttar’s Loan Service Station. A spokesman for the business said the proprietor, whom he declined to name, did not wish to comment.
Police are appealing for witnesses and would like anyone with information to contact them on 0300 111 2222. |
