| Police have been carrying out inquiries at the Buttars Place home of Charleston couple Amanda Hagan and Ronald Hathway following the sudden death of their baby son, Zach, in the early hours of yesterday.
Forensic officers clad in white paper suits carried out extensive inquiries at the house yesterday — including carrying out an examination of the toy-filled garden — while uniformed officers went round the doors speaking to neighbours.
A police spokesperson confirmed today that Zach’s body had now been taken to Yorkhill Hospital, in Glasgow, where a post mortem is expected to be carried out over the course of the next 48 hours.
The results of the examination will determine the cause of death, and the outcome will influence the future path of the police investigation.
Zach and his twin brother, Ron, are understood to have been born early at Ninewells Hospital, in Dundee, a month ago.
Amanda (23) and Ronald — a 25-year-old supermarket worker — have four other young children — Lucy, Kasey, Callum and Allana.
The Evening Telegraph visited the family home today, but there was no answer at the door.
A close family friend is reported to have said, “This is unbelievably sad.
“I saw her on Sunday and she was so happy to have Zach home.”
Another neighbour added, “Zach and Ron were born early, but were doing quite well.
“The rest of the family always seemed quite happy — you always saw the kids playing out in the front garden.”
The police spokesperson said today the death was still officially being treated as “unexplained”, and inquiries are ongoing.
As in all cases involving a sudden death, a report will be prepared and sent to the Procurator Fiscal in Dundee. |
