Dave keen on Alhambra tattoo

DAVE ANDERSON, of Downfield, Dundee, is keen to get a tattoo, but wants to enlist the help of BwB readers for the design.

“My dad DAVID SQUIRE ANDERSON was brought up in Lochee and Beechwood and, at one time, played for a team called ALHAMBRA HIBS,” said Dave (ander49@blueyonder.co.uk).

“Dad, who worked in the shipyard and later settled in Douglas, was proud of two things . . . his family and the fact he played for that Hibs team around the late 1940s.

“From what I can gather, they seemed to be based in Balfield Road where Arnold Clark Motors are now situated.

“What I am specifically looking for is some sort of club badge or crest.

“If I could get one, I’d like to get a tattoo of that design in memory of my dad.”

ANDY McINTOSH IDENTIFIED AS NCR UNKNOWN

ALLAN BLYTH was in the NCR photo on May 1 and names the “unknown” committee man.

“The man standing between Alex Balmer and myself is ANDY McINTOSH,” said Allan.

“As regards the goalkeeper, I can’t remember his second name either.

“I reckon the season could be 74-75 as, at the end of that season, Albert Kidd went to play in the juniors before progressing into the senior ranks.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to NCR’s recent Sportsman’s Dinner, but, if it was anything like the 50th anniversary event, I’m sure a great night was had by all.

“Keep up the good work. It is always good to read all the stories and reminisce each Friday.”

DAVIE MORRIS also identified Andy McIntosh.

ANN STREET SHOP

DOUGLAS TOTT, of Bruichladdich on the Isle of Islay, replied to a previous BwB piece.

He said, “According to the Dundee FC centenary book ‘Up Wi’ The Bonnets’, BILL MARSH signed for Dundee from Chelsea in 1924.

“He owned a grocer’s shop in Ann Street, which was sold several months before he was transfered to Kilmarnock in November 1937.

“I suspect that he was born in the year 1903.

“If it was 1894, then he would have been transferred to Kilmarnock at the age of 43.”

CARNOUSTIE FC — PRE-PANMURE

Photos such as the one below never cease to amaze me.

It’s quite obvious that a lot of care and attention went into setting up the photo, with the eventual choreography just first class.

It was Carnoustie Panmure JFC official DOUGIE MITCHELL who sent in this lovely photo, and it’s the CARNOUSTIE FC team from season 1934-35.

“My main interest, of course, lies with CARNOUSTIE PANMURE, which wasn’t formed until 1936,” said Doug.

“All our founder members have passed on, as have, I would imagine, all those in the photograph.

“Consequently, I have no way of identifying the players and officials pictured.

“I have some of the names, but thought that, perhaps, some of your readers, such as sons, daughers or grandchildren, may be able to identify the players and committee in the photo.”
