Post mortem carried out on teenager

Flowers laid at the scene of Mr Farrens’ death in Elm Street, Dundee.

A post mortem was being carried out on a Dundee teenager today, following the discovery of his body in a city street at the weekend (writes Graham Huband).
A police spokesperson said the death of William Farrens remained “unexplained” today, and officers were awaiting the outcome of the post mortem examination.

The 19-year-old was found dead in the road in Elm Street at around 6.30am on Saturday.

The discovery prompted a major police inquiry, and officers quickly cordoned off the road to allow a full forensic examination.

Mr Farrens’ body was covered by a tent and remained in situ for several hours to allow the investigation to take place.

Door-to-door inquiries were carried out in the vicinity, but investigations at the scene were significantly scaled down over the course of the weekend and the road was reopened by yesterday afternoon.

Several bouquets of flowers were laid at the scene. One tribute simply read, “Billy, Sadly Missed.”

Other notes of condolence had also started to appear on social networking website Bebo.
