| Stagecoach Strathtay announced its intention to provide a direct link to the hospital from the Tay Bridgehead villages following complaints from customers about having to catch two buses.
From July, Ninewells will be included as a stop on certain buses on the 77 route which goes to Dundee city centre, Broughty Ferry and Ethiebeaton, though the timetable has not yet been decided.
The change was agreed following discussions between the company and Tay Bridgehead councillor Ron Caird over how the service could be improved.
Stagecoach East Scotland operations director Steve Walker said, “Stagecoach aims to consistently provide a varied and reliable bus network across the Strathtay area and we are always happy to look into any concerns or suggestions of where we can improve our service provision.
“Councillor Caird raised this issue with us and we have been able to come to an agreement to work Ninewells Hospital into our timetable plans for the 77 in the summer.”
Mr Caird said he had received complaints from constituents about the lack of a direct service from the area, particularly from senior citizens.
He said, “They found it daunting having to take two buses to reach the hospital, especially when it was necessary to walk from Dundee bus station along a busy area to the Seagate stance in all weathers.”
Thanking Stagecoach Strathtay for promising the route change, Mr Caird added, “The new direct service will also be a boon for hospital employees, outpatients and family visitors of all ages.” |
