Hunt for cowards after OAP attacked
Police were today pulling out all the stops in their hunt for two youths who left an 82-year-old Perth woman severely injured after assaulting and robbing her on her doorstep (writes Paul Reoch).
As the woman underwent her second operation today, Detective Inspector Steve Bissett called the attack “cowardly” and confirmed that officers have been scanning CCTV footage to glean information.

“This has been a particularly cowardly and sickening assault on an elderly woman in broad daylight,” he said.

The woman was attacked and robbed of her handbag yesterday as she made her way back to her home in Primrose Crescent, Tulloch, at 11.55 am.

She was taken by ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary, where it was confirmed she had sustained fractures to a hip and shoulder.

She underwent an operation yesterday on her shoulder and returned to medical theatre today for an operation on her hip.

“Her condition is stable, but due to her age she is being closely monitored,” a spokesperson said today.

The assault was also condemned by Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Kerr, of western division, who described it as “appalling.”

He said, “This crime is exacerbated by the age of the victim. The lady was walking back home from the shops when she was attacked by two men as she approached her front door. They stole her handbag.”

DI Bissett added, “We are in the process of checking CCTV footage and officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the Primrose Crescent, Pullar Terrace, Nimmo Avenue, and Cairns Crescent areas in a bid to identify the pair responsible.

“If anyone has any information about who might be responsible, I would urge them to get in touch with us.”

Both assailants, who were seen running from the scene, are thought to be between 15 and 20 years old.

One is described as around 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, with short black hair. He was wearing a cream hooded top and carrying a skateboard.

The second youth is around 5ft 7ins, of slim build, and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the police on 0300 111 2222 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
