Has anyone noticed an increase in noise from aircraft and bird-scaring rockets at Dundee airport?
The commotion seems to start early in the morning, around 6am (bird scaring rockets), and goes on until very late at night (planes with engines running).
I’ve lived in the Perth Road for close on 15 years and can never remember it this bad.
It seemed to start when Highlands and Islands Airports took over the facility.
The company must have introduced a new bird scaring system, similar to the one used at Inverness, but that airport isn’t located in a built-up area. — Sleepless.
Shocked by care service portrayal
After watching the Panorama programme about care in the community, I reassure clients of Carewatch, which was mentioned a lot in the programme.
I am a carer with Carewatch in Dundee, and my colleagues and I would never leave clients lying in a mess and needing personal care.
We might be in a hurry and late for our next job and allotted times for clients might differ, but we are all very caring and were all shocked at what we saw on this programme. — True Carer.
No housing cash
After all the brave talk from the new SNP administration in Dundee of a change for the better, it is nothing short of a disgrace the city will see not one red cent of the money allocated by the SNP Government in Edinburgh for new council house building.
Fourteen councils will benefit, but Dundee, in desperate need of help, has been ignored.
Instead the bulk of the funding will go to the wealthy Edinburgh and Lothians, an act of generosity which will enable them to build 670 new houses.
Once again the SNP has been caught out making pledges to Dundee and not fulfilling them.
New housing convener Jimmy Black promised action for families who have been on the waiting list for years. These are grand words that now ring hollow as the new SNP council’s complete inability to convince their bosses in Edinburgh of Dundee’s case clearly demonstrates. — Betrayed Again.
Havana Swing praise
Once again on business in Dundee from Antwerpen, I went to Dundee Rep to see the band Havana Swing. What a night. The band not only has new tunes in their repertoire, but also the quality of playing has improved so much that you could have closed your eyes and pretended to be listening to a CD.
I enjoy also the band’s sense of humour.
I am in negotiations with the Brugge and Gent festivals in Belgium to bring Havana Swing over to play in the country of origin of Django Reinhardt.
Dundee should be proud to have its very own band of gypsies. — Jan Zebruick, Antwerpen, Belgium.
Broughty ramp
I was very surprised to read the new planning convener of Dundee Council has said he is going to look afresh at the matter of the disabled ramp at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Broughty Ferry. I want a ramp but not at the expense of pedestrian safety.
I believe the new convenor supported the previous administration’s decision to oppose a stopping up order, as it would compromise pedestrian safety.
Now he apparently thinks an overly narrow pavement is perfectly OK. — Graham, Broughty Ferry.
Mess left by selfish smokers
Something has to be done about the mess left by smokers outside pubs. Cigarette butts are discarded willy-nilly, despite bins being provided.
I have also seen this kind of behaviour from smokers when they litter before getting on buses. Why isn’t Dundee City Council doing something about it? Smokers do themselves no favours with their selfish attitude. — Litter Free Dundee.
Fantasy
While some will no doubt continue to question the decision, history will show the UK Government was right to step in and save RBS, HBOS and the Dunfermline Building Society, and transfer £1.2 trillion liabilities to Britain’s National Debt.
No country outside the G8 would have been in a position to provide the guarantees required to cover this huge debt.
While a united Britain can, it is the stuff of fantasy to suggest a separate Scotland could have taken on a level of indebtedness. — C. M.
Hit head
I hit my head on the ticket machine on a No. 33 bus in Fintry Drive, Dundee, heading towards Whitfield on January 5. Could the man and woman who offered me assistance please contact me? — Mrs Edgar (01382 526998).
Kenny still brilliant
I praise the entertainment branch of the Dundee City Council for securing Kenny Rogers and his band for the Caird Hall. They were outstanding.
Kenny sang all his hit songs and introduced his family on video while he sang.
He was brilliant and has lost none of his stage presence. — Jimmy Borland, Dundee.
