Craig quiet on Cadamarteri
Craig Levein today refused to comment on reports Huddersfield striker Danny Cadamarteri is on his radar (writes Graeme Finnan).
In fact, the Dundee United boss made it crystal clear he won’t be discussing any possible transfer targets until he has something concrete to say.

Craig watched the former Everton, Fulham, Leeds and Leicester striker in action for Huddersfield against Carlisle on Monday, but refused to speculate on whether or not he would be making a move for the player.

“I’m not going to comment on speculation,” said Craig. “It was the same last year when we were being linked with this player and that player and, to be honest, it drove me nuts. When we have any news, the fans can rest assured I’ll let them know.”

Meanwhile, the United gaffer was prepared to speak about Saturday’s opponents Kilmarnock, and he knows his side face a difficult 90 minutes against Jim Jefferies’ men.

“We’ve lost both games to them this season, so that tells you how difficult it’s going to be. They’ve been really inconsistent this season, but they won 3-0 last week and you don’t often see that sort of margin in the Premier League, so they will be a handful and we have to be wary about them.

“Saying that, I feel we are in good form ourselves and we are at home, so we will be taking the game to them.”

Back-up keeper Michael McGovern will be in his usual place on the bench on Saturday, despite having to come off injured during yesterday’s 1-0 reserve loss to Hamilton at Station Park.

“It was a completely accidental head knock which required stitches, but he’ll be OK for the weekend,” explained Craig.

Midfielder Scott Robertson is back in light training following last week’s groin operation.

Safety first at Dens
Dundee stadium manager Jim Thomson has revealed safety of fans will be his No. 1 priority when St Johnstone visit on Saturday week (writes Graeme Finnan).
Depending on results this weekend, Saints could clinch the title at Dens and, should that be the case, are expected to bring a bumper following with them.

The Dark Blues are reluctant to make the game all-ticket and would consider moving home fans from the South Enclosure to accommodate the visiting support.

That suggestion has riled a small section of Dundee season ticket holders, who feel they should be allowed to keep their regular seat, although it is something that has happened in the past when the Old Firm have visited Dens.

However, Jim considers safety to be paramount to any decision and feels it would be “ludicrous” for Dundee to put themselves in a position where they had to lock fans out when there were still empty seats in the stadium.

That’s a scenario Dundee are all too aware of, having suffered a similar fate at Livingston a few years back, something that still rankles with Dark Blues fans.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Jim said, “We won’t know the situation until the weekend games.

“But Saints have indicated to us they think they would bring around 5000 fans if they have the chance of winning the title that day. Given the experience of our fans at Livingston four years ago, when we had several hundred locked out, I believe it would be hypocritical of us to lock out many visiting fans from a game which is very important to their club.

“Livingston were widely condemned for locking out people who had travelled, and we certainly wouldn’t want our club to be similarly castigated.

“We’ve previously looked at and asked the police whether visiting fans could be allowed into both ends of the Main Stand for games where a large visiting support was going to be in attendance, and the request was refused because segregation would be impossible with Dundee fans situated between two sections of away support. This leaves us with the option of using the South Enclosure for visiting fans.

“It’s been used for Celtic and Rangers fans, and experience shows an away support in that area of the ground leave down Dens Road towards where their buses will be parked in Neish Street.

“As someone who stood and sat in the South Enclosure for years, I fully realise it is the spiritual home of the Dundee support, but my main concern has to be the security and safety of everyone who attends the match.”

Meanwhile, on the playing front at Dens, Giorgos Efrem is in line for a return after missing out the last few weeks due to international duty and a hamstring problem.

“Geordie trained yesterday and was feeling a wee bit tender, but we’ll see how he goes over the next few days,” said boss Jocky Scott.

McCaffrey progress
St Johnstone defender Stuart McCaffrey is making progress from his hip injury, but it will be later in the week before it’s known if he’ll be fit enough to face QOS at home on Sunday.
The match is being screened live on BBC Alba and fans are reminded the kick-off time is 3.15.

Robbo in frame for East Fife job
John Robertson has emerged as the likely successor to Dave Baikie after the Dundonian quit as East Fife manager (write James Masson and Jonathan Watson).
The former Hearts, Inverness CT, Ross County, Livingston and Derry City boss is being strongly linked with the post and is believed to be ahead of Lee Makel in the queue.

Meanwhile, former Arbroath and Cowdenbeath manager Baikie, who has also been in charge of Tayport and Bo’ness in the junior ranks, is being strongly tipped to take over at Linlithgow.

Baikie’s departure from Bayview comes after former chairman Willie Gray, who moved from chairman to vice-chairman last week, announced he was resigning from the board.

Former Scotland international forward Stevie Crawford is now in temporary charge of East Fife first-team affairs.
