Dee4Life’s pledge for fan
Dundee Football Club fans’ group Dee4Life has pledged £500 to help the family of Kevin Murray, the Scotland fan who died in Amsterdam, repatriate his body (writes Katie Smyth).
Mr Murray (42) had travelled to Amsterdam with around 12 friends to support Scotland in their World Cup qualifier against Holland on March 28, but was found dead in his hotel room on the morning of the match.

His family has since been informed by Dutch police it will cost around £5000 to bring his body home.

Reading of their plight members of Dee4Life were moved to pledge an initial £500 from their trust fund.

Trust Board member Graeme Smith said today, “We’d like firstly to express our deepest sympathy to Kevin’s friends and family at what must be a very difficult time for them all.

“Kev was a popular, well-known face at Dens and someone who had supported both the club and his country for a very long time.”

Mr Smith said Dee4Life had planned to run a fundraiser at some stage in the future, but events have moved them to act sooner.

“It’s become apparent there’s a more immediate need to get one of our own home.

“We can only imagine what his loved ones are going through and on behalf of his fellow Dark Blues we’d like to make a contribution to assist.”

Kevin’s partner Lynne expressed her gratitude to Dee4Life saying, “I’m very, very pleased to have the £500 towards bringing Kevin back. I just miss him so much. All I want is to bring him home.

“Not just for me, but for the kids to be able to say goodbye.”

Kevin, a former Black Watch soldier, was an engineer, but had recently been made redundant from Delta Capillary.

His mother Lorraine Murray has contacted the Black Watch Association to apply for assistance in raising the £5000.
