| Tory group leader Rod Wallace said they had been approached by administration and Labour group leader Kevin Keenan with a suggestion that ties between them should be strengthened.
Until now the administration has been a formal coalition of Labour and the Liberal Democrats supported informally by the Tories.
Mr Keenan said he wanted to see the three parties strengthen their ties and work more closely together.
He said he felt that was the closest practical solution to the suggestion by Independent councillor Ian Borthwick of having an administration with representatives of all parties.
That is something about which Mr Keenan has personal reservations, believing there should be a formal opposition on the council as, without that, it could lead to abuse of power.
Councillor Wallace said the possibility of a formal tie-up with Labour and the Liberal Democrats was something his group was prepared to consider.
However, he said he did not envisage it being under the individual party banners but rather as a Dundee unionist alliance.
The Tories are also still considering Mr Borthwick’s idea of an all-party administration, which he outlined to them in more detail last night.
“We have not made a decision on that as a group yet but it is something we are looking at,” Mr Wallace said.
He said the SNP had suggested something similar a few years ago, while in opposition, but he appreciated their view might have changed now when they appear to be on the verge of being able to take over the administration.
Meanwhile, Mr Keenan said it was intended to put forward nominees for the various convenerships from the existing administration coalition at next Monday’s special meeting of the council called by the SNP. |
