NCR jobs hit raised in House of Commons

Jim McGovern

Dundee West MP Jim McGovern today raised the plight of the redundancy hit NCR workers during a debate in the House of Commons (writes Graham Huband).
Mr McGovern told MPs that NCR’s announcement of 252 job losses was a “devastating situation” for the workers and the wider economy in the city.

Following his speech, Mr McGovern told the Tele, “It was important to raise the proposal to make 252 people redundant at NCR during the debate on statutory redundancy pay. The NCR redundancy proposals are a real and devastating blow to Dundee and it was important to bring this hit of realism to the debate today.

“People are being made redundant and, particularly in the current economic climate, it is vital redundancy pay is fair and that employers stick to their promises.

“I have committed to doing all I can, in my capacity as MP for Dundee West, to address this devastating situation.”
