OAP proves he’s fit for life in the fast lane

An 81-year-old Dundee grandfather has proved he is ‘Still Game’ after taking a tilt at Knockhill racing circuit at the wheel of a Ferrari.
Pensioner Robert Dunn rolled back the years as he pushed the pedal to the metal while on a recent visit to the Fife track with his daughter Karen Beattie.

Mr Dunn, of Lauderdale Avenue, has been driving for 64 years — but had never previously had the opportunity to prove his credentials as a racing driver.

He warmed up with four laps of the circuit in a SEAT Leon Sport before switching to the powerful Ferrari 360 for a six-lap blast around Knockhill’s tricky twists and turns.

Afterwards, Mr Dunn said it had been a “fantastic” day. He said, “The SEAT was great but the Ferrari was completely different.

“The minute I saw it I couldn’t wait to get into it. You can’t drive the car to its full potential as the corners come rushing up and you have to brake hard but I was going quite fast.

“Both my daughter and I got good scores from the instructors. It was an amazing day and I absolutely loved it.”

Karen — who gave her dad vouchers for the track day for Christmas — said she was immensely proud of her dad and his commitment to set aside the pipe and slippers and live life in the fast lane.

A Knockhill spokesperson said Mr Dunn was not the oldest person they’d ever had on track — that record is held by a woman of 89.
